What Are Plantar Warts?

Different types of warts can grow on the human body. For one reason or another, people may develop flat warts, palmar warts, and periungual warts. Also among the warts that people commonly deal with are plantar warts.

Plantar warts are the ones that grow on feet. They will typically appear either on the ball or the heel of the foot.

These warts are caused by HPV (human papillomavirus) entering the body. If you have a cut or some other opening on your foot, the virus can enter through there.

What makes plantar warts especially troublesome to deal with is their location. Because they are often located on the underside of the foot, they inevitably have to bear weight when we stand and walk around. Soon enough, pain may start to radiate from that part of your body.

If you have to be on your feet for long stretches, your plantar warts will make you miserable. The pain may also intensify the longer you have to be on your feet. It may soon get to the point where simply walking around becomes an impossible task.

Don’t forget about the possibility that your plantar warts could bleed. That can be a scary sight if you’re unprepared.

Take action against your plantar warts immediately by consulting with Dr. Sundblad and Dr. Arab of Advanced Foot, Ankle & Wound Care in Sterling Heights, MI.

How Are Plantar Warts Treated?

The warts growing on your feet can cause significant amounts of pain. Dealing with them should be your priority. Head to a podiatrist in your area so you can seek effective treatment for your plantar warts.

Your treatment session will begin with the podiatrist examining your foot and warts closely. They may also conduct some tests to confirm that your growths are warts.

Upon confirming that you have plantar warts, your doctor will inform you that they will likely disappear on their own. They will also give you the option of pursuing further treatment if you want to remove your plantar warts as soon as possible.

Your podiatrist may give you oral or topical medication for your plantar warts. If that treatment is still not fast enough for you, they can present you with cryotherapy, laser therapy, or acid treatment options. Other surgical procedures can also be utilized to remove the plantar warts right away.
